I just took the SAT today and I feel that this book changed nothing. Although it has an O.K. grammar section, I've seen better. The analogy and critical reading section were [garbage]. It had nearly no vocbulary building strategies. Plus, the book was outdated.(1986 - please!)This book also knew next to nothing about the tests.(and what it did was outdated) I bought it because it was cheap and covered both the SAT and ACT, so I thought it might be good. Was I in for a big shock! Don't be enticed by the low price, you can find better, newer, updated books on the market.

I see this book has some bad reviews and why....I don't know so am going to read so after I write my review because this book to me is pure gold and I wish I could have the guy who wrote it sign mines! Anyway let me give you some backround information on me. My life has not been so grand at all had some things happen to me at a young age that set me back badly and it was never my fault...what could a four year old do? So that thing that happen to me made me grow up into a mute person if someone waved at me I wouldn't if someone wanted talk to me I panic my social skills were messed up.

So you can guess when I went to school teachers saw me as the stupid slow one because hey I wouldn't talk really at all maybe can I use the bathroom? Even in middle school the teachers thought I skipped school and guess what? I was siting right next to her the whole time yea it was funny for them thats how quite I was so during my first years in school I was the slow kid and teachers didn't even bother in helpping me whats the point right? My mind was nothing I mean a animal was smarter then me so sometimes this lady would come in and give me all the answers in class and I had to do nothing at all not one thing but the other students were like thats not fair but I kinda enjoyed it no work and no one ever cared.

So one day in forth grade...or was it third grade anyway we had a spelling test and guess what? I study the 10 words for a week and I learned them so well that I even knew the order of them so I guess I wasn't stupid and I cry sometimes even though it was long ago but as the teacher was calling out words I got bored and filled the whole row of words on the sheet and she came over and said sorry you failed and I was young and didn't understand at all but she accused me of cheating and she had no proof because I didn't they saw me as a stupid child so for me to write out ten words and in order was cheating so she gave me a F....for studying.

Coarse geometry is the study of spaces (particularly metric spaces) from a "large scale" point of view, so that two spaces that look the same from a great distance are actually equivalent. This point of view is effective because it is often true that the relevant geometric properties of metric spaces are determined by their coarse geometry. Two examples of important uses of coarse geometry are Gromov's beautiful notion of a hyperbolic group and Mostow's proof of his famous rigidity theorem.

The first few chapters of the book provide a general perspective on coarse structures. Even when only metric coarse structures are in view, the abstract framework brings the same simplification as does the passage from epsilons and deltas to open sets when speaking of continuity. The middle section of the book reviews notions of negative curvature and rigidity. Modern interest in large scale geometry derives in large part from Mostow's rigidity theorem and from Gromov's subsequent "large scale" rendition of the crucial properties of negatively curved spaces.

The final chapters discuss recent results on asymptotic dimension and uniform embeddings into Hilbert space.

John Roe is known for his work on index theory, coarse geometry, and topology. His exposition is clear and direct, bringing insight to this modern field of mathematics. Students and researchers who wish to learn about contemporary methods of understanding the geometry and topology of manifolds will be well served by reading this book.

In differential geometry and topology one often deals with systems of partial differential equations, as well as partial differential inequalities, that have infinitely many solutions whatever boundary conditions are imposed. It was discovered in the fifties that the solvability of differential relations (i.e. equations and inequalities) of this kind can often be reduced to a problem of a purely homotopy-theoretic nature. One says in this case that the corresponding differential relation satisfies the $h$-principle. Two famous examples of the $h$-principle,

the Nash-Kuiper $C^1$-isometric embedding theory in Riemannian geometry and the Smale-Hirsch immersion theory in differential topology, were later transformed by Gromov into powerful general methods for establishing the $h$-principle.
The authors cover two main methods for proving the $h$-principle: holonomic approximation and convex integration. The reader will find that, with a few notable exceptions, most instances of the $h$-principle can be treated by the methods considered here. A special emphasis in the book is made on applications to symplectic and contact geometry.

Gromov's famous book "Partial Differential Relations", which is devoted to the same subject, is an encyclopedia of the $h$-principle, written for experts, while the present book is the first broadly accessible exposition of the theory and its applications. The book would be an excellent text for a graduate course on geometric methods for solving partial differential equations and inequalities. Geometers, topologists and analysts will also find much value in this very readable exposition of an important and remarkable topic.
